It was too choppy and overcast to snorkel and take underwater photos at Seaford Beach #naarm this morning… but a quick walk along the high tide mark and at least 8 species of seaweeds were collected in a tub for photos to upload to iNaturalist.
Seaweeds are classified into 3 groups: Brown algae, green algae and red algae (each groups colour depends on the depth of the water they live in and the ability to capture the sun’s light spectrum under water)…
Our Bay is one of the shallowest in thecworld so we often find green algae like sea lettuce and brown like Neptune’s necklace, red algaes are for deeper waters.
I don’t know which group the white one belongs to (it seemed fresh not bleached by sun or dry butbperhaps it has been rehydrated). Always more to learn!
